Marisa founded We Clean Trails in 2020 as part of her Think Global Act Local project for Miss Earth USA. While on a hike with her dog Milo, Marisa noticed the amount of litter in her community and decided to take action. Since then, Marisa has hosted approximately 150 cleanups across San Diego County. Marisa was honored by the County of San Diego for her work with We Clean Trails with the 2020/2021 Park Ambassadorship Award.

In 2021 Marisa was crowned Miss Earth USA and went on to represent the United States at Miss Earth, where she finished in 2nd place out of 89 countries and gained the new title of Miss Earth Air. Miss Earth is an annual international pageant that advocates for environmental awareness, conservation, and social responsibility. With the environmental scholarship she received through this competition, she was able to expand her We Clean Trails efforts nationally.
